When is the 2027 Selective Entry exam and who can sit it?
The Victorian Selective Entry High Schools exam for Year 9 entry in 2028 is scheduled for 20 June 2027. Students sit it in Year 8, so a child in Year 5, 6 or 7 now is in the preparation window. We also prepare Year 5 and 6 students for Year 7 scholarship tests, which use very similar reasoning sections.
What does the exam actually test?
Reading comprehension, mathematics, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, and two writing tasks (creative and persuasive/analytical). The reasoning sections are the ones most school programs never teach, which is why we drill them every week.
How much does it cost?
Small-group sessions start from $25 an hour; one-to-one is $35–45 an hour. The Skills Check, the consultation and the first session are free, and there are no lock-in contracts.
Is two sessions a week really necessary?
For selective entry, yes, if you want a genuine shot. One session covers maths, the other covers English, reading and writing; reasoning drills are split across both. Families starting later than Term 4 2026 can add a third session closer to the exam.
Do you run practice tests?
A full, timed practice test every fortnight from the start of the program, marked and returned with a breakdown by section. Students learn the timing and the question styles long before the real exam.
What if my child isn't ready for selective prep yet?
The Skills Check will tell us. If there are gaps in Year 5–6 maths or reading, we close those first (from $25/hr) and move into exam preparation once the foundations are there. We will tell you honestly either way.
