Year 2 English is about phonics, sight words, fluent reading and the beginnings of writing: full stops, capital letters and simple sentences. The questions here are short, written to be read aloud with an adult, and cover Reading & comprehension, Phonics & spelling, Writing & grammar and Speaking & listening. Because the Victorian Curriculum for Year 2 puts so much weight on decoding and comprehension, a child who can answer these confidently is on track for the reading demands of the middle primary years.
It suits Year 2 children who can read the question with a parent (for Prep and Year 1, read the questions aloud together and let your child choose the answer), families who want a quick read on how english is going before a parent-teacher meeting, and tutors or teachers who want a short warm-up.

A ten-item quiz can tell you whether the easy and at-level content is in place; it cannot tell you how a student copes with the multi-step, above-level questions that separate a Developing result from a Strong or Exceeding one, and it cannot see whether a wrong answer was a gap, a slip or a misreading. That is why every RHZ student starts with the free Skills Check instead: about fifteen minutes across every topic for the year, pitched at the top of the year level, scored on the server, and turned into a plain-English report that names the secure topics, the shaky ones and the recommended next step. Yes. No sign-up, no email, no payment. You can take it as many times as you like; add ?seed= to the address or press "New set of questions" for a different ten. The full-length Skills Check is also free, but it asks for a parent email so we can send the report.
