Laverton families ask us the same two questions about VCE Physics: is my child actually behind, and what will you do about it? The first is answered by our free Skills Check, the second by this page. We are a local centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, rated 5.0 on Google, tutoring Units 1 to 4 in person and online.
Physics is the VCE science with the fewest facts to memorise and the most thinking per question. Students who do well are the ones who can draw the situation, choose the right principle, set up the equation with correct units and then interpret the answer. Students who struggle usually memorise formulas without knowing when each applies. Our Physics tutoring is about building that judgement, which is why sessions are problem-led rather than note-led.
In Unit 3 the course asks how fields explain motion and electricity: gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, the physics of generators and transformers, Newtonian mechanics including circular motion and projectiles, and an introduction to special relativity. Unit 4 turns to light and matter: waves, interference and diffraction, the photoelectric effect, wave-particle duality and matter waves, plus a student-designed investigation. The end-of-year exam mixes multiple-choice with extended calculation and explanation questions.
Our tutors teach a method for every problem: diagram, known and unknown quantities, principle, equation, substitution with units, answer with units and significant figures, and a sanity check. We put a lot of weight on explanation questions, because VCAA rewards precise physics language (for example, distinguishing between force, field and flux) and penalises vague statements. Students learn to write exactly what a three-mark answer needs.
Units 1 and 2 Physics are more varied and include thermodynamics, electricity, radiation and nuclear physics, and motion, with an options topic chosen by the school. We use Year 11 to establish the mathematical habits (vectors, rearranging equations, unit conversion, graphs and gradients) that Unit 3 assumes, and to make sure the student is comfortable with the calculator and data-analysis skills the practical work requires.
Physics tutoring is available one-to-one and in small groups, at our Truganina centre and online. Online works particularly well for Physics because diagrams and simulations are easy to share. From mid Unit 3 we work through past VCAA exams and examiner reports and run timed practice so students are used to the pace of the real exam.
Laverton is one of the older suburbs on our side of the west, with a mix of long-standing families and newer arrivals. Laverton P-12 College takes students from Prep right through to VCE, so we often support a family through several year levels with the same tutor.
From Laverton it is about 12 minutes to 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, via Dohertys Road or Boundary Road. If getting to Truganina is awkward on a given day, the same session can run online with the same tutor.
We tutor VCE Physics students from Laverton P-12 College, Altona Meadows Primary School, Seabrook Primary School and Point Cook Senior Secondary College and other local schools, so our tutors know the pace and the assessment styles used in Laverton.
We also see VCE Physics students from neighbouring Altona Meadows, Williams Landing, Truganina and Seabrook.

These are the topics our VCE Physics tutors work through with Laverton students, grouped by year level. They come from the same curriculum-aligned question banks that power the free Skills Check, so the check tells us exactly which of these your child needs.
One-to-one tutoring is $35–$45 an hour depending on the year level; small groups of up to five are from $25 an hour. Plans are monthly, you choose how many sessions a week, and you can cancel any time. The Skills Check and the consultation are free. Online and in-person sessions cost the same.
Methods-level algebra and trigonometry: rearranging equations, vectors, right-angle trigonometry and reading gradients from graphs. Calculus is not required, but students doing Methods alongside Physics generally find it easier.
We help students design a sound investigation, handle uncertainty and error properly, and present their findings in the poster format. The experiment and the poster must be the student's own work.
Usually incomplete working, missing units or vague explanations. Physics exams are marked for method as well as answer, so we practise laying out working the way the examiners want to see it.
Electromagnetic induction and transformers in Unit 3, and the quantum ideas (photoelectric effect, matter waves) in Unit 4. We give these extra time, with visual explanations and repeated practice.
For most students, yes, provided their maths is solid. Where Year 10 physics topics were rushed we cover forces, energy and motion again in the first weeks of Unit 1.
