RHZ Tutoring has been tutoring High School for families across Wyndham and the west from our Truganina centre, and Melton is one of the suburbs we see most. Below is how our High School tutoring works for Years 7 to 12, the topics we cover, and the practical details for Melton families.

How we tutor High School (Years 7–12)

High school is where tutoring changes from fixing a gap to managing a workload. In Years 7 and 8 the issue is usually the jump from primary: more teachers, faster topics, and assessment that expects independent work. In Years 9 and 10 it is the pace of maths and the shift in English from retelling to analysis. In Years 11 and 12 it is the VCE itself. We tutor across all of it, and we start every student with a free Skills Check so the tutor knows where the gaps are rather than guessing from a report.

For junior secondary (Years 7 to 10) we tutor maths, English and science to the Victorian Curriculum, following the school's sequence but stepping back to earlier content whenever the Skills Check shows it is missing. Year 7 and 8 maths is where we most often find primary gaps in fractions and place value; Year 9 and 10 is where we prepare students for the Methods versus General decision and for VCE English. Science sessions follow the school's unit and teach the explanation-writing that tests reward.

For VCE (Years 11 and 12) we tutor Mathematical Methods, General Maths, Specialist Maths, English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, each by a tutor who knows that study design. VCE sessions are exam-focused from the start: worked SAC-style questions, past VCAA papers from mid-year, bound-reference building for the maths subjects, and weekly timed writing for English. We are honest with students about the marks they are leaving on the table and how to recover them.

Sessions are an hour, one-to-one or in a small group of similar level, at our Truganina centre or online. Every session ends with a progress note to parents: what was covered, what is secure, what is next. Homework is tutor-set and short, because high school students already have plenty; the point is deliberate practice on the specific skills that need it.

Many of our high school students come from the large secondary colleges of Melbourne's west, where class sizes make individual attention hard. Some are behind and want to catch up; some are doing fine and want to do very well; some are in Year 10 and want to walk into VCE prepared. The Skills Check and the free consultation are how we work out which, and what to do about it.

High School tutoring for Melton families

Melton is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the country, and it is the furthest suburb we list: about twenty-five minutes from our Truganina centre. For most Melton families the practical option is online tutoring, which runs with exactly the same tutors, the same Skills Check and the same progress notes as our in-person sessions. Melton students are welcome at the centre for holiday programs and exam revision.

Melton to our Truganina centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029 is about 25 minutes by car, via the Western Freeway and Leakes Road. Online sessions run live with the same tutor, and we recommend them as the default for Melton families during the school term.

Schools our Melton students come from

Students from Melton Secondary College, Staughton College, Kurunjang Secondary College, Melton Primary School and Melton West Primary School come to us for High School, which means the tutor usually recognises the school's sequence and the way it tests.

Families from Melton West, Melton South, Kurunjang and Brookfield use the same sessions, and small groups are formed by level, not by suburb.

What high school tutoring covers

How it works

1
Free Skills Check. Start with the free Skills Check: a short online diagnostic, done at home, that shows topic by topic where your child sits against their year level.
2
Free consultation. A tutor calls you for a free consultation, walks through the result and recommends a plan: 1:1 or small group, in person or online. No card, no lock-in.
3
Targeted sessions. Your child is matched with a High School tutor and sessions start, at the Truganina centre or online. After each session you receive a short note on what was covered and what is next.

Pricing

Small-group sessions (three to five students of a similar level) are from $25 an hour. One-to-one sessions are $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level, with VCE at the top of that range. Plans are monthly, you choose how many sessions a week, and you can cancel any time. The Skills Check and the consultation are free. Online and in-person sessions cost the same.

Frequently asked questions

Which subjects do you tutor for high school?

Maths, English and science for Years 7 to 10, and Mathematical Methods, General Maths, Specialist Maths, English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology for VCE.

My child is in Year 7 and struggling with the transition. Can you help?

Yes, and it is a common reason families first contact us. We usually find one or two primary gaps in maths and an unfamiliarity with analytical writing in English, both of which respond quickly to targeted work.

Do you help with study skills and organisation?

Within sessions, yes: how to plan for a test, how to take notes that are useful, how to build a revision routine. We do not run separate study-skills courses; the habits are built into subject tutoring.

How early should VCE preparation start?

Term 4 of Year 10 is the sweet spot. It leaves time to fix Year 10 gaps and to learn the calculator and essay structures before Unit 1 begins.

Can my child do two subjects?

Yes. Many students do maths and English, or a maths subject and a science, in separate sessions. We schedule them back-to-back where possible to save travel.
