Altona Meadows families ask us the same two questions about Online Tutoring: is my child actually behind, and what will you do about it? The first is answered by our free Skills Check, the second by this page. We are a local centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, rated 5.0 on Google, tutoring Prep to Year 12 in person and online.
Altona Meadows has good primary schools but no secondary college of its own, so students spread out to Laverton, Point Cook, Altona and the Catholic colleges for Years 7 to 12. That spread is one reason we anchor every session to the Victorian Curriculum rather than to one school's worksheets.
The drive from Altona Meadows (3028) to our centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029 takes about 15 minutes, via Point Cook Road and the Princes Freeway, or Boundary Road. If getting to Truganina is awkward on a given day, the same session can run online with the same tutor.
We tutor Online Tutoring students from Altona Meadows Primary School, Queen of Peace Primary School, Seabrook Primary School and Laverton P-12 College and other local schools, so our tutors know the pace and the assessment styles used in Altona Meadows.
We also see Online Tutoring students from neighbouring Seabrook, Laverton, Point Cook and Altona.
Online tutoring is not a fallback at RHZ; it is how a large share of our families choose to learn, especially those who are more than fifteen minutes from our Truganina centre or who are juggling several children's activities. It runs live over video with the same tutors who teach in the centre, at the same prices, with the same free Skills Check at the start and the same plain-English progress note after every session.
A good online session looks different from a video call. The tutor and student share a digital whiteboard so working is visible to both, the tutor can see the student write in real time (a phone or document camera pointed at the page works well for maths), and materials are sent in advance so there is no scrambling. For English, the student writes in a shared document and the tutor marks it live. For VCE sciences and maths, worked solutions and calculator screens are shared directly.
Online suits some students better than in person. Students who are shy in a room often participate more from home. Senior students save the travel time and use it for study. Families with a child in Year 3 and another in Year 10 can run both sessions back-to-back without a second trip. And for VCE subjects with few students at a school, like Specialist Maths or Physics, online lets us match the student to the best tutor rather than the nearest.
It does not suit everyone. Very young students (Prep to Year 1) usually do better in person, where the tutor can hear them read and handle counters and cards. Students who are easily distracted at home need a quiet space and a parent nearby for the first few sessions. We will tell you honestly which format we recommend after the Skills Check, and many families mix the two: online during the week, in person before exams.
Practically, all a student needs is a laptop or tablet with a camera, a stable internet connection and a quiet spot. We send a link before each session, keep a record of what was covered, and the tutor can share the session's working with you afterwards. Small-group online sessions are capped at four so every student gets attention.

Every Altona Meadows student's program is built from the Skills Check result, drawn from these year-by-year topics. If your child's school is on a different sequence, the tutor follows the school and uses this list to check nothing has been skipped.
One-to-one tutoring is $35–$45 an hour depending on the year level; small groups of up to five are from $25 an hour. Plans are monthly, you choose how many sessions a week, and you can cancel any time. The Skills Check and the consultation are free. Online and in-person sessions cost the same.
For most students from Year 3 upwards, yes, provided the session is well run with shared working and materials prepared in advance. For Prep to Year 2 we generally recommend in person.
A laptop or tablet with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. For maths, a phone or document camera pointed at the student's page lets the tutor see the working.
