If you are an Australian family in Abu Dhabi, or a United Arab Emirates family planning to move to Australia, this page explains how RHZ Tutoring keeps a child on the Australian curriculum from overseas: what we teach, when sessions run in Abu Dhabi time, what it costs in Australian dollars, and how the free Skills Check works from anywhere. Abu Dhabi's Australian community is smaller and more settled than Dubai's, with many families in energy, defence, health and university roles living on Saadiyat, Al Reem, Khalifa City and Al Raha.
The first reason is pace. Australian year levels are numbered and sequenced differently from British Key Stages, the American grade system and the IB, and a child can be doing well at an international school in Abu Dhabi while quietly drifting a year off the Australian sequence in maths, or missing the explicit grammar and analytical-writing work Australian schools expect. Our tutors teach to the Victorian Curriculum, which is the Australian Curriculum as Victoria implements it, so every session keeps your child on the Australian year level they will be placed in when they return.
Returning-home readiness is the second. Whether the destination is a Victorian school and the VCE, a New South Wales school and the HSC, or a selective-entry or scholarship exam, the child who arrives from Abu Dhabi already working at Australian standard settles in a term; the child who arrives a year behind spends Years 9 and 10 catching up. We run selective-entry and scholarship preparation for overseas students in exactly the same program our Melbourne students use.
The third reason is that NAPLAN is not available in Abu Dhabi. NAPLAN is sat in Australian schools in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 and is the one standardised benchmark Australian parents rely on; overseas, there is nothing equivalent against the Australian scale. Our free online Skills Check fills that gap. It is pitched at the top of the child's Australian year level, drawn from a 5,900-question bank across Prep to Year 12, and produces a same-day topic-by-topic report. Families in Abu Dhabi run it once a year as their NAPLAN substitute, and again before a move home.
Because Abu Dhabi has an Australian-curriculum school, some families assume the year levels will line up perfectly on return; in practice pace and assessment still differ, and a Skills Check each year shows exactly where.

Abu Dhabi is on Gulf Standard Time, UTC+4. Melbourne is on AEST (UTC+10) until 3 October 2026 and AEDT (UTC+11) from 4 October 2026 to the first Sunday in April. The Australian Curriculum is shared across states for Prep to Year 10, so our tutoring suits a child returning to any state. For Years 11 and 12 outside Victoria, ask us; we will be honest about which subjects we can support.
For a family in Abu Dhabi the free Skills Check does three jobs. It tells you where your child sits against their Australian year level, topic by topic, which no international-school report can. It gives the tutor a starting point, so the first paid session is teaching rather than diagnosing. And, repeated each year, it becomes the benchmark NAPLAN would have provided: you can see whether the child is holding their Australian year level, drifting, or pulling ahead.
There is no card and no commitment. If the result shows your child is on track, we will say so; if it shows a gap, we will tell you exactly which topics and suggest a plan.
Online small-group sessions (two to four students at the same Australian year level) are from A$25 an hour. One-to-one sessions are A$35 to A$45 an hour depending on year level, with VCE at the top of the range. Prices are the same as for families in Melbourne; there is no international surcharge. Plans are monthly, you choose the number of sessions a week, and you can pause or cancel any time, which matters for families in Abu Dhabi who travel over the northern summer.
Payment is in Australian dollars and international Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards are accepted; your bank converts at its own rate. The Skills Check and the consultation are free.

We schedule in your local time, confirm the Melbourne equivalent in writing, and adjust automatically when either side changes clocks.
Both. The Victorian Curriculum is Victoria's implementation of the Australian Curriculum for Prep to Year 10, with the same content sequence, so a child in Abu Dhabi who is returning to any Australian state is covered. For Years 11 and 12 we tutor to the VCE study designs; ask us about HSC or other state courses and we will be honest about fit.
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons Abu Dhabi families contact us. Australian schools place students by age and year level regardless of what an international school has covered, so we run a Skills Check as soon as the move is confirmed, focus on the Australian topics the current school has not covered, and hand the new school a clear picture of where the child sits.
Only through a registered VCE provider: a Victorian school, Virtual School Victoria, or an overseas school that offers the VCE. RHZ is not a VCE provider and cannot enrol students, but we tutor VCE subjects to students who are enrolled, and we prepare Year 10 students in Abu Dhabi who will start VCE on their return to Victoria.
You pay in Australian dollars (A$) and international Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards issued in United Arab Emirates are accepted. Prices are identical to our Melbourne prices: small groups from A$25 an hour and one-to-one A$35 to A$45 an hour. Your bank applies its own exchange rate.
Every RHZ tutor holds a current Victorian Working with Children Check, which we verify before they teach. Sessions run on our scheduled video link, parents are welcome to sit in at any time, the whiteboard and session notes are available to you afterwards, and we never contact a student directly outside a booked session.
