Tens of thousands of Australian children are at school overseas at any one time, in British, American, IB and Australian-curriculum international schools, and almost all of them will come home. RHZ Tutoring keeps those children on the Australian year level while they are away: weekly live sessions with a Melbourne-based, Victorian-curriculum-trained tutor, a free online Skills Check as the annual benchmark NAPLAN would have provided, and practice papers that download instantly anywhere in the world. Choose your city below for local session times, the international schools we tutor from, and the questions parents in that city ask.

Why overseas families use an Australian tutor

International schools are excellent at what they teach, but they do not teach the Australian sequence. Maths topics arrive in a different order, algebra begins earlier or later, and the explicit grammar, persuasive and analytical writing that Australian schools assess from Year 3 is often absent. A child can be top of the class in Dubai or Singapore and still be placed a year behind in Melbourne. Our tutors plan every session from the Victorian Curriculum year level the child will return to, so the gap never opens.

The return itself is the second driver. Families coming back for Years 9 to 12 are walking into the VCE or the HSC; families with younger children often have a selective-entry or scholarship exam in mind. We run the same preparation for overseas students as for our Melbourne students, on the same timeline, and we are honest about how a child is tracking.

Third, there is no NAPLAN overseas. The free Skills Check is pitched at the top of the child's Australian year level, drawn from a 5,900-question bank across Prep to Year 12, and delivers a topic-by-topic report the same day. It works from any country and costs nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Which countries do you tutor students in?

Anywhere with a reliable internet connection. The cities on this page are the ones we see most: the Gulf, South-East Asia, East Asia, the United Kingdom and the Pacific. If your city is not listed, the sessions work exactly the same way; email us with your time zone.

How do you handle time zones?

We schedule in your local time and confirm the Melbourne equivalent in writing. Melbourne is on AEST (UTC+10) until 3 October 2026 and AEDT (UTC+11) from 4 October, and each city page shows sample session times for both. Cities from Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur are one to three hours behind Melbourne, the Gulf is six to eight hours behind, London nine to eleven, and Auckland and Fiji are one to two hours ahead.

Is this the Australian Curriculum or the Victorian Curriculum?

The Victorian Curriculum is Victoria's version of the Australian Curriculum for Prep to Year 10, with the same content sequence, so it suits a child returning to any Australian state. Years 11 and 12 are tutored to the VCE study designs.

There is no NAPLAN overseas. How do we benchmark our child?

With the free online Skills Check: 10 to 15 minutes pitched at the top of the child's Australian year level, drawn from a 5,900-question bank across Prep to Year 12, with a topic-by-topic report the same day. Most overseas families run it every year.

Can our child do the VCE while living overseas?

Only through a registered VCE provider such as Virtual School Victoria or an overseas school that offers the VCE; RHZ is not a provider and cannot enrol students. We tutor VCE subjects to enrolled students and prepare Year 10 students who will start the VCE on their return.

What does it cost and how do we pay?

Small online groups from A$25 an hour and one-to-one A$35 to A$45 an hour, the same as in Melbourne. Payment is in Australian dollars and international Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards are accepted. The Skills Check and consultation are free.

Are your tutors checked?

Every tutor holds a current Victorian Working with Children Check, verified before they teach, and parents can sit in on any online session.
