Adelaide is a compact capital with a school system that changed shape in 2022, when Year 7 moved into high school. It has the IGNITE selective program at three public high schools, a large independent and Catholic sector, and the SACE for Years 11 and 12, with a half-hour time difference from Melbourne that is easy to work around.
Maths is the subject where a gap compounds fastest, and it is also the subject where the national curriculum gives us the most help. Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum sets out, year by year, what every child in the country should be able to do in number, algebra, measurement, space, statistics and probability, and each state's syllabus is built on it. In primary the curriculum is mostly about number: counting and partitioning in Foundation and Year 1, regrouping in Years 2 and 3, multiplicative thinking and fractions from Year 3, decimals and percentages in Years 5 and 6. Most of the primary students we meet who are behind are still counting on their fingers for basic facts, so we rebuild automaticity first with short daily practice, then move to the fractions, place value and measurement work that Years 5 and 6 (and NAPLAN) lean on.
Years 7 to 10 move quickly everywhere: integers and algebraic expressions in Year 7, linear equations and indices in Year 8, surds, trigonometry and linear graphs in Year 9, then quadratics, simultaneous equations and the first senior-style problems in Year 10. Sessions follow the school's sequence so tutoring reinforces class, but the tutor steps back a year whenever the Skills Check shows a foundation is missing. Year 10 is where every state's students choose between a calculus-based and a general senior maths pathway, and we want that choice made from strength.
An online maths session runs for an hour. The first ten minutes are retrieval practice on last week's skills, the middle thirty-five to forty minutes are new teaching and worked examples on a shared whiteboard with the tutor watching the student work (a phone pointed at the page shows the working, not just the answer), and the last ten minutes check the student can do it alone. After every session you receive a plain-English progress note. Homework is small and specific, usually ten to fifteen minutes a night.
Small online groups of two to four students at the same year level are the most popular option for primary and junior secondary maths because the price is lower and students work harder alongside peers. Start with the curriculum. Every state's Prep to Year 10 maths, English and science syllabus is built on the Australian Curriculum (version 9), and South Australia is no exception, so the content a Year 8 student in Adelaide is doing this term is the content our tutors teach every day. Names differ (Foundation here, Prep there; a NESA or SCSA document rather than a Victorian one) but the sequence does not, and the tutor confirms the school's current unit in the first session.

Since 2022 Year 7 has been the first year of high school in SA, so the transition and any selective testing now happen a year earlier than parents who grew up here remember.
Years 11 and 12 in South Australia lead to the SACE: Stage 1 in Year 11 and Stage 2 in Year 12, with school assessment and external assessment (examinations or moderated tasks) in Stage 2 subjects. RHZ tutors the SACE the way we tutor every non-Victorian senior certificate: we support the underlying maths, English and science skills and the study technique a Year 11 or 12 student needs, but we do not claim SACE syllabus or school-assessment expertise. In practice that means a Year 11 student in Adelaide can use us for the algebra, calculus and problem-solving that every senior maths course rests on, the analytical and persuasive writing every senior English course assesses, the chemistry, physics and biology concepts and the way to write a scientific explanation, and the habits of planning, note-making and timed practice. What we will not do is pretend to know your school's assessment program better than the teacher who wrote it.

Yes for Prep to Year 10. Every state's maths syllabus is built on the Australian Curriculum, so the topics and their order are the same; what differs is pace and emphasis, and the tutor checks that against the school's current unit in the first session and against the free Skills Check result.
Usually yes, because most students who hate maths actually hate feeling lost in class. Once the Skills Check shows the two or three missing skills and the tutor rebuilds them, class starts making sense again and the attitude follows. Online, shy students often participate more than they would in a room.
One hour a week is the norm for Prep to Year 6 and is enough for steady progress if the short home practice is done. Two sessions a week are worth it for a student who is more than a year behind, or in the term before NAPLAN or a selective or scholarship test.
For Prep to Year 10, yes in substance: South Australia's syllabus is built on the Australian Curriculum, the same as Victoria's, and our tutors work from the school's current unit. For Years 11 and 12 we are honest: we support the maths, English and science skills and the study technique a SACE student needs, but we do not claim SACE syllabus or school-assessment expertise, and we will say so if a subject is outside what we can help with.

For Prep to Year 10, yes in content and sequence. Each state publishes its own version (NESA syllabuses in New South Wales, the SCSA curriculum in Western Australia, the Victorian Curriculum in Victoria) but all are built on the Australian Curriculum version 9, so a Year 5 child in Adelaide is doing the same fractions, decimals and measurement as a Year 5 child in Melbourne. Years 11 and 12 are where the states genuinely differ.
