Tutoring for Baden Powell College Students

Year levels at Baden Powell College and what matters in each

This page speaks generally about primary and secondary year levels rather than describing Baden Powell College's own structure, which the school itself is the authority on. We tutor Prep to Year 12, so whichever years the school offers, there is a tutor for them.

Prep and Year 1: phonics, early reading and early number, where a small gap is easiest to fix and most often missed in a big class.
NAPLAN in March for Year 3, Year 5, Year 7 and Year 9: we secure the year's content and spend a few sessions on the format and the writing genres rather than drilling past papers.
Years 5 and 6: independent-school scholarship tests and the move to secondary school, which assumes fluent number facts, fractions and structured writing.
The Year 6 to Year 7 transition inside the same school: fewer changes than moving school, but the same jump in pace and independence.
Year 8: the selective-entry test (sat in Year 8 for Year 9 entry) for families considering it, and the Year 8 algebra and indices that Year 9 assumes.
Years 9 and 10: the acceleration in maths (linear graphs, trigonometry, quadratics) and the shift in English to analysis, ending with the Methods-versus-General decision and VCE subject selection.
VCE Units 1 to 4: SACs across the year, the GAT in June, and the written exams from late October into November; we work to the study design for each subject.

Getting from Baden Powell College to the centre

Getting here from Tarneit: about 5 minutes by car, straight down Leakes Road. Secondary students often come by train (the centre is four minutes from Tarneit station); primary students are usually dropped off after school pick-up, and parking outside is free.

Our after-school window is 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30 pm to 6 pm on Friday, in one-hour sessions. As a rule most families at Baden Powell College take a 4 pm or 4:30 pm slot, which leaves time for the school pick-up and the 5-minute drive. The last session of the day starts at 6 pm (5 pm on Fridays).
