Hoppers Crossing is a mature suburb with a stable set of schools, and a lot of our Hoppers Crossing families come to us by word of mouth from a neighbour or a cousin. Because the centre is only ten minutes up the road, most choose in-person sessions after school and keep the same tutor for years.

High school tutoring for Hoppers Crossing families

Secondary students from Hoppers Crossing come to us at three points: Year 7, when the transition exposes a primary gap; Year 9 and 10, when maths accelerates and English shifts to analysis and the VCE subject choice looms; and Years 11 and 12, for the VCE itself. Each needs a different tutor and a different plan, and the free Skills Check plus consultation is how we decide which.

For Years 7 to 10 we tutor maths, English and science to the Victorian Curriculum, following the school's sequence but stepping back to earlier content whenever the Skills Check shows it is missing. Year 9 and 10 maths (linear graphs, trigonometry, quadratics, simultaneous equations) is where we prepare students for the Methods-versus-General decision so they choose from strength. Year 9 and 10 English is where we teach the analytical and persuasive structures VCE assumes. Science sessions follow the school's unit and teach the explanation writing that tests reward.

VCE tutoring is subject-specific: Mathematical Methods, General Maths, Specialist Maths, English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, each with a tutor who teaches that study design. The year is a chain of SACs ending in the November exams, so sessions prepare for each SAC in turn and add past VCAA papers from mid-year. One-to-one at $45 an hour is the usual VCE format; small groups from $25 run where enough students are at the same point.

Students from Hoppers Crossing Secondary College, The Grange P-12 College, Mossfiel Primary School, Bellbridge Primary School and Cambridge Primary School make up most of our Hoppers Crossing after-school intake. We are independent of all of them; we simply know what they teach and when they test.

From Hoppers Crossing it is about 10 minutes to 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, via Hoppers Lane or Sayers Road. The centre is also about four minutes from Tarneit station, which is the easiest option for secondary students who travel on their own after school. There is free parking right outside 17/47 Apex Drive; most parents drop off, do the shopping at Tarneit or Truganina and come back. Our after-school window is 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30 pm to 6 pm on Friday, in one-hour sessions. As a rule for Hoppers Crossing families the 4:30 pm and 5 pm slots are the most popular, because the 10-minute drive after a 3:15 pm school finish makes 3:30 pm too tight. The last session of the day starts at 6 pm (5 pm on Fridays).

Frequently asked questions

Which subjects do you tutor for high school?

Maths, English and science for Years 7 to 10, and Mathematical Methods, General Maths, Specialist Maths, English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology for VCE.

My child is in Year 7 and struggling with the transition. Can you help?

Yes; it is the most common reason Hoppers Crossing families first contact us. We usually find one or two primary gaps in maths and an unfamiliarity with analytical writing in English, both of which respond quickly to targeted work.

How early should VCE preparation start?

Term 4 of Year 10 is the sweet spot, which is when our VCE 2027 Head Start runs: a free VCE Skills Check, free consultation and first session free, then a Unit 1 and 2 head start through Term 4 and January.

Where is the high school tutoring held for Hoppers Crossing families?

At our Truganina centre, 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, about 10 minutes from Hoppers Crossing (via Hoppers Lane or Sayers Road), or online with the same tutor. The centre is four minutes from Tarneit station with free parking outside.

How do we start?
