Hoppers Crossing is a mature suburb with a stable set of schools, and a lot of our Hoppers Crossing families come to us by word of mouth from a neighbour or a cousin. Because the centre is only ten minutes up the road, most choose in-person sessions after school and keep the same tutor for years.

Private tutor (1:1 tutoring) for Hoppers Crossing families

A private tutor, in the sense most Hoppers Crossing families mean it, is a tutor who works with one child at a time, follows that child's gaps rather than a class program, and is accountable to the parent. That is exactly how our one-to-one sessions work. What we do not do is send tutors into homes: sessions run at our centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029 or live online, which keeps the tutor supervised, the materials to hand and the price lower than a home-visit tutor.

One-to-one is $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level: $35 for primary, $35 to $40 for Years 7 and 8, $40 for Year 9, $40 to $45 for Year 10 and $45 for VCE. Small groups of three to five students at the same level are from $25 an hour. The Skills Check and the consultation are free, plans are monthly, you choose how many sessions a week, and you can cancel any time. Online and in-person cost the same.

We recommend one-to-one when the Skills Check shows a student more than a year behind, when a child is anxious or reluctant, for early readers in Prep to Year 2, for students working well above their year level, and for VCE students in the final run to exams. A small group is usually better value for a primary or junior secondary student who is roughly at level and needs steady, structured practice; the price is lower and students often work harder alongside peers.

The tutor is matched, not assigned at random. After the free consultation we pair your child with a tutor who teaches that subject and year level and, where possible, already works with other Hoppers Crossing students, so the school's sequence and assessment style are familiar. You keep the same tutor; if the match is wrong, tell us and we change it. Every session ends with a written progress note: what was covered, what is secure, what is next.

From Hoppers Crossing it is about 10 minutes to 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, via Hoppers Lane or Sayers Road. The centre is also about four minutes from Tarneit station, which is the easiest option for secondary students who travel on their own after school. Parking is free and directly outside the centre, which matters at 3:30 pm when you are doing a school pick-up and a tutoring drop-off in the same trip. Our after-school window is 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30 pm to 6 pm on Friday, in one-hour sessions. As a rule for Hoppers Crossing families the 4:30 pm and 5 pm slots are the most popular, because the 10-minute drive after a 3:15 pm school finish makes 3:30 pm too tight. The last session of the day starts at 6 pm (5 pm on Fridays).

Frequently asked questions

Do your tutors come to homes in Hoppers Crossing?

No. One-to-one sessions run at our Truganina centre or live online. That keeps tutors supervised, materials to hand and the price at $35 to $45 an hour rather than home-visit rates.

Are your tutors qualified and checked?

Every tutor is local, holds a valid Working with Children Check and is trained in our session structure and reporting. Tutors are matched by subject and year level; VCE subjects are taught by tutors who know that study design.

Is one-to-one better than a small group?

It depends on the student. One-to-one for a large gap, anxiety, early readers, extension or a short exam runway; a small group of three to five at the same level for steady work at or near year level, at a lower price. The free consultation is where we recommend one.

Where is the one-to-one tutoring held for Hoppers Crossing families?

At our Truganina centre, 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, about 10 minutes from Hoppers Crossing (via Hoppers Lane or Sayers Road), or online with the same tutor. The centre is four minutes from Tarneit station with free parking outside.

What does it cost?

Small groups of three to five students are from $25 an hour. One-to-one is $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level, with VCE at the top of the range. The Skills Check and the consultation are free, plans are monthly and you can cancel any time.

How do we start?
