📍 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029👩‍🏫 Local tutors, valid WWCC⭐ 5.0 · 34 Google reviews

RHZ Tutoring is a local, independent centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, rated 5.0 on Google from 34 reviews, and Truganina is one of the suburbs we see most. Here is how our homework help works for Truganina families: what happens in a session, when and where it runs, what it costs and how to start.

Homework help for Truganina families

"Homework help" means two different things, and it is worth being clear which one we do. The first is supervision: a room, an adult and an hour, so the homework gets done. The second is teaching: a tutor who watches how the child does the homework, sees where it goes wrong, and fixes the skill underneath. We do the second. A Truganina student's homework is the starting point of the session, not the whole of it.

The session starts with the homework the school has set, worked by the student with the tutor watching and asking questions. Where the student gets stuck is where the teaching starts: the tutor steps back to the underlying skill, teaches it explicitly with worked examples, and then returns to the homework so the student finishes it themselves. Nothing is copied, and the tutor's note to you says what the sticking point was.

The tool that makes this work over a term is our Mastery Booklets. Each booklet covers one skill from the Victorian Curriculum (adding fractions with different denominators, say, or writing a topic sentence) in a short sequence of worked examples, guided practice and a check. When homework exposes a gap, the tutor assigns the matching booklet as that week's home practice, ten to fifteen minutes a night. The next session opens with the booklet check, so we know whether the skill is now secure before we move on.

After the bell, most of the students walking into the centre from Truganina come from Truganina P-9 College, Truganina South Primary School, Truganina East Primary School and Garrang Wilam Primary School. Tutors see the same schools' worksheets and tests week after week, so they recognise the sequence a class is on.

You do not need to travel: our centre is on Apex Drive, off Leakes Road, about four minutes from Tarneit station. The centre is about four minutes from Tarneit station, so older students can come by train and walk or be collected. There is free parking at the door on Apex Drive, so pick-up and drop-off take a minute, not a lap of a shopping centre car park.

The centre opens for after-school tutoring from 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30 pm to 6 pm on Friday. We find that the 3:30 pm slot is realistic for Truganina students because the school run and the tutoring run are the same trip. If a day does not work, the same session can run online with the same tutor. For Prep to Year 2 we keep homework help one-to-one; from Year 3 a small group of three to five works well because each student works on their own homework while the tutor moves between them.

How it works

1
Free Skills Check. Start with the free Skills Check: a short online diagnostic, done at home, that shows topic by topic where your child sits against their year level.
2
Free consultation. A tutor calls you for a free consultation, walks through the result and recommends a plan: 1:1 or small group, in person or online. No card, no lock-in.
3
Targeted sessions. Your child is matched with a tutor and sessions start, at the Truganina centre or online. After each session you receive a short note on what was covered and what is next.

Pricing

Small-group sessions (three to five students of a similar level) are from $25 an hour. One-to-one sessions are $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level, with VCE at the top of that range. Plans are monthly, you choose how many sessions a week, and you can cancel any time. The Skills Check and the consultation are free. Online and in-person sessions cost the same.

Frequently asked questions

Do you just help with homework, or do you teach?

Both, in that order. The tutor works through the school's homework with your child, finds where the thinking breaks, teaches the missing skill, and sets a Mastery Booklet for that skill as the week's practice.

What are Mastery Booklets?

Short, single-skill booklets built from our curriculum-aligned question banks: a worked example, guided practice, independent practice and a check. The tutor assigns one when homework exposes a gap, and checks it at the start of the next session.

Can the tutor help with any subject's homework?

Maths, English and science from Prep to Year 10, and the VCE subjects we tutor (Methods, General, Specialist, English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology). For other subjects the tutor can help with organisation and study approach but will say so honestly.

Where is the homework help held for Truganina families?

At our centre in Truganina at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, or online with the same tutor.

What does it cost?

Small groups of three to five students are from $25 an hour. One-to-one is $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level, with VCE at the top of the range. The Skills Check and the consultation are free, plans are monthly and you can cancel any time.

How do we start?

Your child does the free online Skills Check (10 to 15 minutes, at home). A tutor calls you for a free consultation, goes through the result and recommends a format and a starting point. Nothing is charged until you decide to go ahead.
