RHZ Tutoring is a local, independent centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, rated 5.0 on Google from 34 reviews, and Truganina is one of the suburbs we see most. Here is how our after-school tutoring works for Truganina families: what happens in a session, when and where it runs, what it costs and how to start.

After-school tutoring for Truganina families

The after-school hours are when tutoring actually happens for most Truganina families: school finishes around 3:15 pm, and by 3:30 pm the first students are at the centre. We built our timetable around that window rather than around weekends, because a student who has a maths session on Tuesday at 4 pm applies it in class on Wednesday, and the tutor sees the result the following Tuesday. That weekly rhythm is what moves a grade.

Our after-school window is 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30 pm to 6 pm on Friday, in one-hour sessions. As a rule the 3:30 pm slot is realistic for Truganina students because the school run and the tutoring run are the same trip. The last session of the day starts at 6 pm (5 pm on Fridays).

A one-hour after-school session has a fixed shape. The first ten minutes are retrieval practice on last week's skills, because that is when we find out what actually stuck. The middle forty minutes are teaching and worked examples with the tutor watching the student work, not just marking at the end. The last ten minutes are a short check the student can do it alone, and the tutor writes a plain-English progress note to you before the next student sits down.

Students from Truganina P-9 College, Truganina South Primary School, Truganina East Primary School, Garrang Wilam Primary School and Westbourne Grammar School make up most of our Truganina after-school intake. We are independent of all of them; we simply know what they teach and when they test.

You do not need to travel: our centre is on Apex Drive, off Leakes Road, about four minutes from Tarneit station. The centre is about four minutes from Tarneit station, so older students can come by train and walk or be collected. There is free parking right outside 17/47 Apex Drive; most parents drop off, do the shopping at Tarneit or Truganina and come back.

Students can book one after-school session a week per subject, which is the norm, or two in the term before NAPLAN, a scholarship or selective-entry test, or the VCE exams. Many Truganina families run maths on one afternoon and English on another; siblings are scheduled back to back so there is one trip, not two. If your child has sport on their usual day, the session can move online for that week with the same tutor.

How it works

1
Free Skills Check. Start with the free Skills Check: a short online diagnostic, done at home, that shows topic by topic where your child sits against their year level.
2
Free consultation. A tutor calls you for a free consultation, walks through the result and recommends a plan: 1:1 or small group, in person or online. No card, no lock-in.
3
Targeted sessions. Your child is matched with a tutor and sessions start, at the Truganina centre or online. After each session you receive a short note on what was covered and what is next.

Pricing

Small-group sessions (three to five students of a similar level) are from $25 an hour. One-to-one sessions are $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level, with VCE at the top of that range. Plans are monthly, you choose how many sessions a week, and you can cancel any time. The Skills Check and the consultation are free. Online and in-person sessions cost the same.

Frequently asked questions

What time do after-school sessions run?

From 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and to 6 pm on Friday, in one-hour blocks. The last session starts at 6 pm (5 pm Friday). Students who arrive early can start homework in the quiet room.

Can my child get there from school on their own?

Secondary students often do: the centre is about four minutes from Tarneit station and on local bus routes. Primary students are usually dropped off by a parent after the school pick-up, and Truganina families typically choose a slot that leaves time for the drive.

What if we cannot make the same afternoon every week?

Sessions can move between afternoons when a slot is free, and any session can run online with the same tutor. Tell the tutor at the start of the week and we will rearrange rather than cancel.

Where is the after-school tutoring held for Truganina families?

At our centre in Truganina at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, or online with the same tutor.

What does it cost?

How do we start?

Your child does the free online Skills Check (10 to 15 minutes, at home). A tutor calls you for a free consultation, goes through the result and recommends a format and a starting point. Nothing is charged until you decide to go ahead.
