RHZ Tutoring is a local, independent centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, rated 5.0 on Google from 34 reviews, and Laverton is one of the suburbs we see most. Here is how our one-to-one tutoring works for Laverton families: what happens in a session, when and where it runs, what it costs and how to start.

Private tutor (1:1 tutoring) for Laverton families

When Laverton parents search for a private tutor they usually mean one of two things: a tutor who comes to the house, or a tutor who works with their child alone rather than in a class. We are the second. RHZ tutors work one-to-one at our Truganina centre and online, not in homes, and every one of them is local, holds a valid Working with Children Check, and reports to you after every session. This page explains what one-to-one costs, when it is the right format, and how it compares with our small groups.

Pricing is simple. One-to-one: $35 an hour for Prep to Year 6, $35 to $40 for Years 7 to 8, $40 for Year 9, $40 to $45 for Year 10, and $45 for Years 11 and 12. Small group (three to five students, same level): from $25 an hour. No enrolment fee, no lock-in; the free Skills Check and free consultation come first, and the monthly plan can be paused or cancelled.

One-to-one is the right format for a student who is a long way behind (more than a year), a long way ahead, anxious about the subject, in Prep to Year 2 (where the tutor needs to hear the child read every session), or preparing for a specific high-stakes exam with a short runway. It is also the right format when the goal is narrow, such as a single VCE subject in the last term. In each of those cases the tutor's full attention for the whole hour is what makes the difference.

Matching matters more in one-to-one than in a group, so we take it seriously: subject, year level, the school's program, and the child's temperament all go into the choice. Most Laverton families keep the same tutor for years. If the first match is not right, we swap it without fuss. After each session the tutor writes you a short note: covered, secure, next, and any homework, which is always small and specific.

From Laverton it is about 12 minutes to 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, via Dohertys Road or Boundary Road. The centre is also about four minutes from Tarneit station, which is the easiest option for secondary students who travel on their own after school. There is free parking right outside 17/47 Apex Drive; most parents drop off, do the shopping at Tarneit or Truganina and come back. After-school sessions at the centre run from 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30 pm to 6 pm on Friday. In practice for Laverton families the 4:30 pm and 5 pm slots are the most popular, because the 12-minute drive after a 3:15 pm school finish makes 3:30 pm too tight. Sessions are an hour, and students who arrive early sit in the quiet room and start their homework.

How it works

1
Free Skills Check. Start with the free Skills Check: a short online diagnostic, done at home, that shows topic by topic where your child sits against their year level.
2
Free consultation. A tutor calls you for a free consultation, walks through the result and recommends a plan: 1:1 or small group, in person or online. No card, no lock-in.
3
Targeted sessions. Your child is matched with a tutor and sessions start, at the Truganina centre or online. After each session you receive a short note on what was covered and what is next.

Pricing

Small-group sessions (three to five students of a similar level) are from $25 an hour. One-to-one sessions are $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level, with VCE at the top of that range. Plans are monthly, you choose how many sessions a week, and you can cancel any time. The Skills Check and the consultation are free. Online and in-person sessions cost the same.

Frequently asked questions

Do your tutors come to homes in Laverton?

No. One-to-one sessions run at our Truganina centre or live online. That keeps tutors supervised, materials to hand and the price at $35 to $45 an hour rather than home-visit rates.

Are your tutors qualified and checked?

Every tutor is local, holds a valid Working with Children Check and is trained in our session structure and reporting. Tutors are matched by subject and year level; VCE subjects are taught by tutors who know that study design.

Is one-to-one better than a small group?

It depends on the student. One-to-one for a large gap, anxiety, early readers, extension or a short exam runway; a small group of three to five at the same level for steady work at or near year level, at a lower price. The free consultation is where we recommend one.

Where is the one-to-one tutoring held for Laverton families?

At our Truganina centre, 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, about 12 minutes from Laverton (via Dohertys Road or Boundary Road), or online with the same tutor. The centre is four minutes from Tarneit station with free parking outside.

What does it cost?

Small groups of three to five students are from $25 an hour. One-to-one is $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level, with VCE at the top of the range. The Skills Check and the consultation are free, plans are monthly and you can cancel any time.

How do we start?

Your child does the free online Skills Check (10 to 15 minutes, at home). A tutor calls you for a free consultation, goes through the result and recommends a format and a starting point. Nothing is charged until you decide to go ahead.
