Williams Landing is a compact, newer suburb around the station, and most of its students travel out for school: to Point Cook or Truganina for primary, and to Point Cook Senior, Laverton P-12 or one of the independent schools for secondary. It is one of the closest suburbs to our centre, so afternoon in-person slots are easy to fit around school pick-up.

The primary schools in Williams Landing are large, and a large class is exactly where a quiet gap goes unnoticed for a term or two. That is the gap we look for: a Year 4 who still counts on their fingers, a Year 2 who guesses words from the first letter, a Year 6 who writes long pieces with no paragraphs. Our free Skills Check, pitched at the top of the year level, finds it, and our primary tutors are trained to rebuild the foundation with short, frequent practice rather than worksheets.

In Prep to Year 2 we work one-to-one, because the tutor needs to hear the child read and watch them count every session. Reading is systematic phonics, decodable texts and fluency; maths is counting, subitising, place value and the first number facts, taught with counters, cards and games. Sessions are forty-five minutes to an hour with plenty of variety, and the homework is five to ten minutes a night: a decodable reader or a few number facts.

In Years 3 to 6 the focus shifts to fluency and structure: automatic number facts, fractions and decimals, worded problems; and in English, comprehension, spelling and grammar, and how to plan and write a paragraph and then a whole piece. Groups of three to five at the same level are from $25 an hour; one-to-one is $35. NAPLAN in Years 3 and 5 is handled with a few sessions on format on top of the normal work; scholarship and selective-entry preparation in Years 5 and 6 is a separate, longer program.

After the bell, most of the students walking into the centre from Williams Landing come from Williams Landing Primary School, Point Cook Senior Secondary College, Truganina South Primary School and Laverton P-12 College. Tutors see the same schools' worksheets and tests week after week, so they recognise the sequence a class is on.

The drive from Williams Landing (3027) to our centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029 takes about 8 minutes, up Palmers Road, or one stop on the train to Tarneit. The centre is also about four minutes from Tarneit station, which is the easiest option for secondary students who travel on their own after school. There is free parking right outside 17/47 Apex Drive; most parents drop off, do the shopping at Tarneit or Truganina and come back. The centre opens for after-school tutoring from 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30 pm to 6 pm on Friday. We find that most Williams Landing families take a 4 pm or 4:30 pm slot, which leaves time for the school pick-up and the 8-minute drive. If a day does not work, the same session can run online with the same tutor.
