Altona Meadows has good primary schools but no secondary college of its own, so students spread out to Laverton, Point Cook, Altona and the Catholic colleges for Years 7 to 12. That spread is one reason we anchor every session to the Victorian Curriculum rather than to one school's worksheets.

Maths tutor for Altona Meadows families

The maths tutor a Altona Meadows family needs depends on the year level, so we match by it. For Prep to Year 6, a tutor who rebuilds number sense with concrete materials and short daily practice. For Years 7 to 10, a tutor who follows the school's sequence but steps back whenever the free Skills Check shows a primary gap. For VCE, a tutor who knows the Methods, General or Specialist study design, builds the bound reference across the year and works past VCAA papers from mid-year.

Our maths tutors teach to the Victorian Curriculum: number and algebra, measurement and space, statistics and probability, in the same sequence your child's school uses. In primary that means counting and partitioning, regrouping, multiplicative thinking, fractions, decimals and percentages. In Years 7 to 10 it means integers, algebraic expressions, linear equations, indices, surds, trigonometry, quadratics and simultaneous equations, ending with the Methods-versus-General decision in Year 10. Every session is planned from the Skills Check result, not from a generic worksheet.

Every maths hour has the same structure so that progress is measurable: a warm-up on the previous skill, taught examples where the tutor watches every line of working (that is where the errors show), and a short solo check at the end. Homework is a short Mastery Booklet on that one skill. The progress note you receive names the skill, says whether it is secure, and says what comes next. That is how a Altona Meadows parent knows the tutoring is working before the report card arrives.

One-to-one maths is $35 to $45 an hour depending on year level, and is the right choice for a student more than a year behind, a student well ahead, or a VCE student in the final run. Small groups of three to five at the same level are from $25 an hour and suit most primary and junior secondary students at or near year level. Both are available at the centre and online, and the free Skills Check and consultation come first.

Students from Altona Meadows Primary School, Queen of Peace Primary School, Seabrook Primary School, Laverton P-12 College and Point Cook Senior Secondary College make up most of our Altona Meadows after-school intake. We are independent of all of them; we simply know what they teach and when they test. Altona Meadows to our Truganina centre at 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029 is about 15 minutes by car, via Point Cook Road and the Princes Freeway, or Boundary Road. The centre is also about four minutes from Tarneit station, which is the easiest option for secondary students who travel on their own after school. Parking is free and directly outside the centre, which matters at 3:30 pm when you are doing a school pick-up and a tutoring drop-off in the same trip.

The centre opens for after-school tutoring from 3:30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30 pm to 6 pm on Friday. We find that for Altona Meadows families the 4:30 pm and 5 pm slots are the most popular, because the 15-minute drive after a 3:15 pm school finish makes 3:30 pm too tight. If a day does not work, the same session can run online with the same tutor.

Frequently asked questions

Which year levels does a maths tutor cover?

Prep to Year 10 to the Victorian Curriculum, and VCE Mathematical Methods, General Maths and Specialist Maths, each by a tutor who knows that study design.

My child is in Year 9 and has always found maths hard. Where do you start?

With the free Skills Check, pitched at the top of Year 9. It almost always shows two or three earlier skills that are not secure. The tutor fixes those first, then follows the Year 9 sequence.

Do you help with the Methods or General decision in Year 10?

Yes. Year 10 sessions cover the Year 10 content and prepare for both, so the choice is made from strength. Our tutors will tell you honestly which is the better fit.

Where is the maths tutoring held for Altona Meadows families?

At our Truganina centre, 17/47 Apex Drive, Truganina VIC 3029, about 15 minutes from Altona Meadows (via Point Cook Road and the Princes Freeway, or Boundary Road), or online with the same tutor. The centre is four minutes from Tarneit station with free parking outside.
